So, you want to make better decisions as a leader, but you’re feeling stuck? We’ve all experienced that feeling of uncertainty, when you’re unsure what your next best decision should be. We believe that cultivating calm in your mind and body, will serve you well and put you on the path to conquering difficult decisions as a leader. Creating mental space helps you make better decisions based on your values and the person you want to be in the future. In our work with business owners and executive leaders, we are finding immense value in putting aside deliberate time to reflect and learn, so that meaningful action and informed decisions can be made. We challenge you to take some time to yourself and reflect on your leadership decision making process. Here are three tips for you to consider:

3 Tips to Help Leaders Stabilize and Stay the Course to Making Better Decisions

  1. Minimize Stress, Personally and Professionally – One of the key factors that is getting in the way of the necessary stability, focus, execution of plans, engagement, and performance is compound stress at home and in the workplace. To counter this, there will be more time required to express these emotions through exercise, consistent sleep, eating well, joy/play/fun in relationships with people that wish you well/success/happiness. This will require consistent actions in order to come through as a better person. Furthermore, these actions require self-reflection and adjustments.
  2. Break Unhealthy Patterns-Most of us are simply repeating patterns, some of the patterns are healthy habits that keep us on the right track, while others are patterns in the form of coping skills acquired overtime to keep us alive. Some we are aware of, and some we are not. Anything that is overused or overextended can become a weakness, blind spot, or blockage to progress. Oftentimes, these patterns can distract and hinder leaders from the clarity they need to make sound decisions. Through reflecting and identifying the roadblocks, we gain a fresh perspective.
  3. Be Consistent – In tips 1 and 2, you’ll notice our push for you to make consistent actions and maintain sustained effort. We know that through trials and struggles, as leaders we become more aware of who we deeply desire to be. Additionally, team members are looking to their leaders for stability during uncertain times and times of transition. In response, it is the leaders job to steadily and consistently move past being stuck. Consistency gives way to stability, which births great leaders that are great decision makers.
